shoulder to shoulder
Small town in Alabama and I am eight years old . . . Everywhere I look I see piles of fabric - bright bold colors, muted comfy tones, spools of thread and ribbon and lace and the hands of my great grandmother, Big Mama, feeding the turquoise and pinks and orange and blues into the old black sewing machine.
My love of fabric, of color, of beautiful practical things began there, in Alabama, with Big Mama.
Today I have my own piles (and piles) of fabric and they bring me the same joy I felt when I was eight. So I sew . . . bags of all kinds, aprons . . . one of which is a copy of Big Mama's pattern for what is called a Clothes Pin Apron . . . and other things, too . . . wallets, cases, baby slings . . . I like to think that they are like her - Bold, beautiful and practical. I make my own patterns and the ideas and inspiration are endless. Have a look, and remember . . .
